L. Malik Anderson covers news, features, sociopolitics and entertainment. He studies Journalism and Mass Communications (Reporting Emphasis) and Communication Arts (Radio-Television-Film Emphasis) while participating in the Digital Studies Certificate program at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. In addition to being a journalist/ blogger, he is also a poet, actor, and photographer/ videographer. He first found his voice by writing about his most intimate experiences in his poetry, participating in forensics, theatre and in the slam league throughout elementary and high school. In November 2011, L. Malik and a collective of aspiring artists, journalists and bloggers launched Clash Digitel, an online entertainment magazine to uplift young people in the Milwaukee Metropolitan area while creating media in community. He continued to maintain this website until college. In June 2014, L. Malik began his multi-summer internship with Wisconsin Public Radio as the Emma L. Bowen Foundation Scholar working in various departments such as audio engineering, web content, development and The Ideas Network. He finished his fellowship in August 2016. He knew he would work in media for the rest of his life after watching Clark Kent join the school newspaper on Smallville in the fourth grade. L. Malik wanted to tell stories, perform, and share information with others as his contribution to society. His interest in both creative writing and journalism developed into a love for all media- music, television, and film. L. Malik’s most interesting projects captures social justice dialogues in the context of our media and how they influence the world around us. He witnesses the world through the lens of his blackness and queerness, shaping his view on mainstream media. Published articles and features produced by L. Malik have appeared in The Cap Times, Madison Commons, The Madison Times, Madison 365, Wisconsin Public Radio, and on Blavity.
